No More Wasted Bread! Turn Your Left-Over Bread into Homemade Italian Breadcrumbs

Bread is a staple in most homes and always an easy go to for those rushed morning meals or lazy Sundays where you just don’t feel like cooking so it’s always on the shopping list for many of us.

With us being a small family of two, I used to get so frustrated with the number of times and often the sheer quantity of bread that would end up in the bin because we just didn’t manage to finish it all in time.

With the constant rise of prices on groceries in South Africa over the last few months I felt even worse. Money was literally being thrown away and I couldn’t take it anymore! Thus, my Google search began, and I decided to see what I could do with leftover bread. Anything at this point would be better than it ending up in my bin … AGAIN. My solution? Breadcrumbs

We love to cook and having delicious homemade breadcrumbs on hand any time you need them? Who wouldn’t want that right? The best part for me was how simple and versatile the solution was. I can make a whole range of different flavoured breadcrumbs and pop them in my freezer for whenever I need them. Just make sure to use an airtight container and date it before you put it in the freezer.

If you would like to start making your own breadcrumbs at home, I would definitely recommend you read the blog and recipe posted by Jessica Gavin. Her Italian breadcrumb recipe is my absolute favourite and the one we use the most in our home. It is definitely a must-try for homemade fried chicken!
